One of the influences eBay brought to my life is learning to use antique furniture in my home. Antiques used to be the domain of the rich and famous, but that was in the past before the onset of the internet particularly eBay. This giant selling platform made it possible for ordinary people like you and me to access antiques for use in our homes.

I sourced these interesting old pieces from thrift shops, estate sales and garage sales in the vicinity and only buy small furniture in sound condition for two reasons: I have a small house, and am no handy person at all. If you are good at repairing furniture, you can have a good hobby bringing these old furniture back to their former glory.

I like the way these old furniture were painstakingly made during the years gone by. I like to touch the carvings, the thick mirror which remained unbroken, dovetailed joints, or the type of genuine timber they are made of. These furniture tell a different story and will attract attention from your visitors simply because they are unique and full of character you seldom find in modern furniture. They give your home instant vintage charm and you are transported back to the bygone years when life was good and slow paced. You start conversing with your guests where you sourced them and anything related to these lovely furniture which passed the test of times.

Since my home decoration is pretty standard, I find adding small antique furniture easily blend in. Interior paintings in my home are of neutral color so it is easy to complement with antique furniture which come in timber like English oak, mahogany, walnut, in dark brown or black color.

You may ask, do I get tired of using antique furniture for a very long time? Like anything you use for a long time, I do get tired of seeing the same thing so I try to re-arrange their placement at home by moving them around, put some decoration on top of them or anything which will make them look different and give you the sense they are new acquisitions!

At present I am using 3 antique display cabinets to house my collections of vintage items and they never require repairs (at least in my standards.) They save me money as I do not need to upgrade them to the latest display cabinets, the shops decide to put out. When the time comes that I want to sell them on eBay, I am confident I will get more than what I paid for.

The quality of antique furniture is very important because its market value will generally depend on its condition and visual appearance.
